Carmi’s themetic photography theme for this week is the Grounded. What can I write about Grounded?
Well first of all, the day that he posted this weeks theme, we had to Ground my 14 year old, Samantha. I remember thinking I’d post a photo of her, because after-all, she was my Ground-ed child.
It was raining Wednesday night, as I headed out to get a few photo’s of the actual ground, thinking a picture of the Ground-ed girl might not be good enough…. Unfortunately, it was pouring out, so I only got one shot I really liked.
Lastily…. introducing my gravel road. The ground I drive in and out of every day.
I knew I was including the gravel in this theme, because I love gravel! I don’t know why… it’s pretty to me, somehow!
Because I seem to be better at words than photo’s, let’s talk about being Grounded….. Were you grounded much as a kid? If so, comment and tell me about it.
I was seriously grounded twice as a teen, for a month each time! My stepfather wasn’t one to go back on it either, once I was grounded for the month, that was it. It stuck. I don’t think I could put up with Samantha being grounded for a whole month…. one day at a time is enough for me.
The most memorable month’s sentence was given because I got caught steeling Blackberry Brandy from my stepfathers liquor cabinet.
Place: Massachusetts Date: 1981 or 1982. Ohhh, the 80’s!
I was going to my basketball banquet and my friend & cohort Denise and I thought it might be fun to catch a little buzz before it started. Before going, I had to babysit my little sister, Beth, covering between the time my Mom left for work and my stepfather, Oz, came home from work. On this day, during this 2-hour span, I managed to get a pepsi can emptied and filled with a small amounts of various different liquors from the cabinet (but mostly Blackberry Brandy). It was a wonderful mixture, I’m sure!! I hid the open can of Pepsi behind our little shed, where I parked my bicycle and once Oz was home, I made a point to declare loudly, as I walked out the door, that “I need to get my bike” ~ before heading to my friend Denise’ house, her Mom was the taxi to the banquet. This declaration must have made Oz suspicious… think about it….. how many times have I gotten my bike from around the shed and not had to announce it to everyone? Why are kids so stupid? Quite comical! So, Clearly a Chrissie moment, I went around to the shed and got my Pepsi can, but guess what? I forgot to get my freakin bike!!! Yep, I was brilliant. The suspicious Oz was watching me leave out the front picture window, as I hid the liquor under my jacket. He let me get a little past the neighbors house before he yelled….
“Chris, come back here!”
I dropped the liquor.
“Pick up what you dropped!”
Arrrrgh
Ground-ed – 1 month and no banquet!

I remember as a child looking close to the ground for little things. That’s what your grounded photos make me think of – those childhood days of exploration. What a pretty daughter you have too, and I enjoyed reading your profile as well.
ha ha i like the 1st photo for grounded…all your photos are great. i never got super grounded. i was a perfect angel growing up *stifling giggle* but one time my brother had taken up smoking. i was in 9th, he in 7th. we were at this navy rec. dance (dad was in the navy) and the lady who ran it had seen my bro smoking (cigarettes). so, she told my parents. they decided to ground him. i said that i didn’t smoke anything when they asked me (i didn’t smoke nearly as much as he did, mostly just to test it out, if you know what i mean). then my brother snitched on me. we were grounded for about 2 weeks. he’s always snitching…like the time he got caught sneaking back into his bedroom window and told my parents that i did it all the time. hey, i’m not the one stupid enough to get caught LOL
LOL …. I was wondering if someone would think of something like your 1st photo for grounded …. and no, I never got into trouble either as a child …. perfect angel here
I considered the notion of being grounded, but I wasn’t sure how to go about representing it. Since my boys are grown now, I can’t exactly ground them anymore… I considered getting a shot of the granddaddy of all groundings — the state penitentiary is here in town, and the county jail is downtown maybe six blocks from my office… but I decided to pass on that one.
Hard to believe that girl’s only 14… bet you have your hands full!
Grounded was a pretty normal state for me before my teens, but not so much once I got there. Maybe I just got smarter about concealing my misdeeds or something, but most of my memories of being sentenced to my room or the house seem to come from my pre-teen years.
Oh, you bring back high school memories from upstate NY…playing quarters in my basement with my best friend, Michelle, and mixing all kinds of booze in one large glass. It was disgusting! I paid the price…physically. I was sick all weekend…but my parents never learned WHY. I was lucky.
Hi, Chrissie. Thank you for visiting my blog! I enjoyed your story about getting grounded. I honestly don’t remember if I was ever grounded, but Mom probably tried. It wouldn’t have made a difference because I liked being by myself in my room anyway. Better punishment would have been to make me go out for cheerleader, or something!
I don’t remember being grounded much when I was younger. I was the youngest of five. I think by the time my mom got to me, she was too worn out!!! LOL
Michele sent me tonight!
LMAO! I guess we just proved that one person’s pleasure is another’s torture! Go, Samantha! Rah Rah! (giggles)
That’s a fine picture. Poor grounded Samantha!
Michele sent me.
hey, thanks for the visit. Do you ever wonder what a moment like that may have saved you from?
I thank God for the oversight of loving parents, and for the preservation of my life by God’s protection.
Stay tuned for my first tree house video tour… today I buy the wood stove.
You’re lucky you dropped it! I had a similar “suicide” mix once and it did not turn out pretty! I still can’t eat Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and it was 25 years ago!!!!
I like the gravel too!!!
Did Sam get in trouble? Sometimes the word “grounded” can mean “down to earth.” But I don’t think that’s what your talking about here. More like “time-out.”
Ha, that was a funny story. My mom didn’t use the “grounding” method, but I think she should have… I know I gave her lots of gray hairs *sigh*
BTW, your daughter is beautiful
