Mom & Oz

Mom & Oz

My step-dad is going into surgery tomorrow to have his heart rhythm fixed, so I’m doing my 13 all about him….

1.  His nickname is Ozzy (not “the” Ozzy, but I have to admit it was quite cool to have an Ozzy while I was in school)

2.  He grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts

3. In his younger days he played hockey, and drove a Corvette & a Harley.

4.  He raised me since the age of 6 or 7, but met & started dating my Mom when I was 4

5.  He is very hardworking

6.  He is also pretty darn smart

7.  He is retired now, but spent his working years as a dedicated union electrician

8.  He has lots of hobbies ~ motorcycles, fishing, Nascar and building antique cars.

9.  He is quite talented at the building of the antique cars and has won many awards with this talent.

10.  As you can see in these pictures:

11.  Due to the Nascar hobby & the car building, he goes away on car show & race trips quite often.

At a car show...

12.  He is a dedicated husband, father & really loves his grandbabies!

13.  Us Virginia people are sending prayers and much love that the surgery goes well & the big heart gets better!

As posted March 28, 2006 ~ on my old blog (I’m slowly trying to move them over…)

28 March 2006 12:43 EST | Posted by chrisseas-corner Taking Care of Business
My birthday came and went without incident. I got home from work and decided I wanted to go out – so I treated myself to a birthday dinner for Samantha and I. We went to the 99 Restaurant. I had my all time favorite, French Onion Soup, for my appetizer and then for dinner I had a seafood medley which was yummy. Shrimp, Scallops and Schrod with a newburg sauce and crumb topping. Sam had a steak burger which was so big it could have fed both of us. She brought 1/2 of it home. After dinner we drove next door and took Friendly’s Sundays (with extra hot fudge) home for desert. We enjoyed. Samantha wanted to go to a restaurant that wasn’t in Marshfield – so as not to be seen going out with her mother! I got a kick out of that… remembering when… she got the old “too bad” response to that one.
I woke up this morning and do not feel any older. I’m wondering when I’m supposed to feel like an adult. General consensus is that you actually never feel different mentally. When I was young I remember looking up to adults and wondering what I was going to be like, not knowing that I’d be the same exact person. It’s kind of strange when you think about it.

Today is my niece’s birthday – Isabel. I find it very hard to believe that she is already seven.
She was born a day after my birthday and I can already tell how much of an Aries she is…
Here are a few pictures.
Samantha is on the left and Isabel is on the right. This was taken by my sister during one of Samantha’s visits to Mass. when we still lived in Virginia. I’m not sure of the date but I think it was probably at least five years ago. Samantha looks to be about Isabels age now. Looks to me like they didn’t want to go to bed… or do you think they were up to something?

HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY TO ISABEL

Ok and now for a Puppy update:
I couldn’t leave the puppy in the kitchen this morning – she whimpered and whined so much about being locked in. She made her first little barks, too. I couldn’t leave with her making all that racket, being in an apartment, so I gave in and let her out. This was an error in judgement but what could I do? Now she will know she can whine and get her way and she will probably make a mess on my carpet too. But… what was I going to do, I ask again? I had to get to work and I couldn’t leave her barking. Yesterday she did ok. Today I guess she realized what was going on. I put her in the kitchen last night for sleeping and she managed to knock the gate down in the middle of the night. I found her curled up next to Samantha at about 3 a.m. She is just so dang cute! I don’t know how she got up on Sam’s bed. Sam said she didn’t lift her and she hasn’t yet been able to climb or jump up on the furniture… well… I guess maybe she can now.
Yesterday I bought a handheld carpet cleaner. It was only like 40.00 and it works great! I cleaned up a few of her little spots and there is no smell and no stain! I’m thrilled with this little machine! Couldn’t go without it.

Thanksgiving in July

In more ways than one we had a Thanksgiving in July. My Mom decided to make a delicious Turkey dinner for all her girls and their families (and the numbers are getting quite large) because most years I don’t make it home. It was SO good. Turkey with all the fixins, and if there is anything I love, it’s a good home cooked dinner!  My grandmother came too and enjoyed the feast with us.

After dinner we went out and played Water games with water balloons.  What a hoot!  It was perfect weather and we had perfect playmates.

After the water balloon fight, my three sisters and I were pleasantly surprised with a monetary gift for each of us from Nan’s sale of her house. “THANKS”giving ~ for the love of family and their generosity!  For all of it, I am more than grateful.

Boston

Boston

I am home now, safe and sound, but I do still want to blog about my vacation because I have many days still on the agenda to tell you about.

Today, obviously, is all about the city I grew up next to,  Boston!  We went twice during this vacation.

Museum of Science Day

One of the first places I wanted to visit was the Boston Museum of Science.  I had taken Sam when she was very young, but she was too young for her to really remember, let alone appreciate.  Sam initially was not too enthused to go, thinking it would be similar to the tiny tiny Roanoke Science Museum. Not, I assured her ~ for it’s a massive place and very interesting, so she blessed us with her presence.  After the ritual of stopping for a Dunkins iced coffee, my sister Beth, her two children, Samantha and I headed out to Boston on the “T” (Boston’s subway).

Run!

We got to the museum and had a really good time.  Some of the exhibits were how I had remembered, some new and all were good. We had a great time.  I was talking with my mother recently and we both agreed how fun it would be to go and actually have time to read all the exhibits and what they are about. With kids, its a little hard to get it all because they hop so quickly from one thing to the next.

Fanueil Hall

Fanueil Hall

My second trip to Boston was much fun too. Becky was visiting her mother and Mass. friends during our last week in town so we decided to take a trip to Faneuil Hall Marketplace.  If you’ve never been there and are hungry, this is the place to go. The inside of this large tube shaped mall is filled with stands with any type of food you can imagine and the outside is filled with stands too, but these are filled with gifts and things to buy.  After a few high pressure salesgirls attemped to convince my daughter to buy a hundred and ten dollar dress that can be worn 101 different ways, we settled on Boston sweat pants for Sam, a Boston T shirt for her to give her boyfriend,  four small Yankee candles (oh I love that place) and I got myself a pretty necklace with linked turquoise roses.  Becky and her crew spent a lot too.  To top it all off we had dinner at Coogans on Milk Street ~ lobsters for three of us and burgers for the other two.

We took the ferry into and home from Boston too, so we got to enjoy that trip. Outside on the top of the ferry on the way in and inside, due to cold and light rain, on the way home!

Our sisters night out was a ball!  A planned sisters night for the four sisters: Kim, Beth, Molly & myself!

My three sisters

My three sisters

I spent an hour getting dolled up. New shirt, and new shoes, along with an old comfy pair of jeans. My sister Beth arrived at 7:15 and we got to Molly’s at the planned 7:30. Kim was already there, along with one of Molly’s roommates, Gary. After a few beers and constant laughter at old, funny sister memories we decided to head out.  Honestly, it would have been fun just to stay in and talk / laugh all night and we did plan to head back to the house to continue, if the place we planned to go was lame.  Gary decided to crash our “Sisters night” and became the designated photographer.

Bad AbbotsOur first stop was at Bad Abbot’s Pub on Rear Hancock Street in Quincy.  I am very Irish and this place was real close to an authentic Irish Pub. We had a bite to eat and mimicked Fire Marshall Bill….

Look alikes!

Because it was still early and quiet at Bad Abbots, we headed across the way to another bar which was even more boring than the first. We had one beer at the boring place and headed back to Abbots. By then things had gotten much better and the crowd was hopping. The live music had started and the band was terrific!  The crowd was very mixed, Irish speaking their brogue, young blue collar people and a few “Santa Claus” types (long beards and hair).

We danced the night away. We even had a few followers, our Santa Claus, Kims bar buddy, the 25 yr old Quincy boy, (who apparently didn’t mind that I was 41 – LOL).

It’s been a long time since I’ve been out with a group and a long time since I’ve had that much fun.  We are going to try to do it one more time before I leave in two weeks.

13DOLLSAs originally posted on old blog – March 30, 2006

My Thirteen for this Thursday: 13 fashion dolls that Sami created in the virtual world. Let me tell you about Samantha. She is into style and clothes and has been a fashion diva since the age of two (Yes, Literally Two!)  How frustrating for the single Mom that I am, especially now that she is a teenager.  I have to come up with constructive ways of keeping her in her high style. My family helps with this a lot, Thank Heavens!  God Bless her and how cute were these that she created back when she was still a child at heart?

FOURTH

Was it really October the last time I posted???  Wow, I guess it was.  I stopped blogging right around the time I lost my internet and started my night job (2 pm – 10 pm). Normally without internet I would head to the library to post, but with those hours, it was pretty impossible for me to do anything but work on work days. I’m a night owl and usually didn’t go to sleep until about 3 or 4 a.m. and then I’d sleep until close to work time the next day.

BUT I’M BACK!

I am on vacation for a month and in transition yet again (seems to be the norm. for me these past few years) ~ and I do have internet access again, so I guess I’ll try to post, while I have the chance.

Happy Fourth of July, a day late!  Yesterday we had a wonderful time at my uncles annual holiday cookout!  Food, Fun and Fireworks ~ along with drinking, for some and dancing, for others. The fireworks, blasting over my uncles pool, closed the night with a bang!
